I initially found this on Rocketry Online way back in 2001 or 2002, and have re-read it many times since. I was thrilled when I received reprint permission from the editor-in-chief of Aerospace America.</p> <p>I love how Truax uses simple, straightforward, cocktail-napkin calculations to disprove the "logic" of our current national space policy. I purposely included the SpaceX image at the top of the page because I believe that they--more than any existing aerospace venture--are closest to following Truax's advice, and thus the most likely to succeed where so many others have failed.</p> This is probably my favorite article on rocketry and engineering.
